Bluesbdancing Holds on in Regal Rumor

STICKNEY, IL – The anticipated match-up of Pretty Jenny and Bluesbdancing in the $48,375 Regal Rumor Stakes at Hawthorne wasn’t to be as Pretty Jenny scratched, but Bluesbdancing didn’t disappoint.

Sent off at odds of 4-5, Bluesbdancing showed good early speed as she set the early fractions of :22.13 for the first quarter and :46.00 to the half. Challenged early by Tuffted and Love Divine, those two gave way to Modjadji and Trout River Red at the top of the stretch. After five-eighths in :58.73, Bluesbdancing was still on top, holding off Modjadji by a length in the end. Following an objection by jockey Chris Emigh aboard Modjadji that was disallowed, Bluesbdancing was the winner, stopping the timer for the six furlongs in 1:11.84. Modjadji finished a length back in second while Trout River Red was another length back in third.

Trained by Terrel Gore and owned by Nancy and Bob Bartels, Bluesbdancing earned $29,025 for her victory. Ridden by Eddie Perez, Bluesbdancing returned $3.80, $2.40 and $2.20. Modjadji came back $3.00 and $2.60 while Trout River Red returned $3.00 to show.

Trainer Terrel Gore has brought Bluesbdancing’s record to nine wins from 17 starts and was pleased with her performance, “She's a nice horse. This is her fourth year of racing and she won her first race every year. Of course I was glad when Pretty Jenny scratched. This mare has always been capable of early speed, she just doesn't show it all the time. But, our plan was to go for the lead and we were able to do that.”

Jockey Eddie Perez thought Bluesbdancing could set the pace, “We thought she would show good speed. Our plan was to go right for the lead. She runs well fresh and she ran well today.”

Chris Emigh gave it his all with Modjadji but came up just short, “I thought the winner came over on us a little bit. She came off the rail coming out of the turn and we tried to go through but things got a little tight. But, she still ran a great race.”

Hawthorne Race Course is scheduled to conduct 119 Thoroughbred and 39 harness live programs in 2007. Located at Cicero or Laramie Avenues at 35th Street, gates open daily at 10 am. Call (708) 780-3700 or visit the Web site at www.hawthorneracecourse.com.
