Illinois County Fairs

September 6, 2007

Contact: Timothy M. Jones for ISOBA

Aprilís Wil, a winner in 4 of 5 starts in August, has been named Illinois County Fair Horse of the Month for August 2007 by the Illinois Standardbred Owners & Breeders Association, in concert with: The Big 10, Egyptian, Illini, Mid-West, and Northern Colt Associations; and the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Bureau of County Fairs and Horse Racing.

The homebred 3-year-old gelded son of trotting sire Wilson Wyoming, from the Shadow Of A crown mare, Princess April, is owned by Richard Worlow Jr. of Kewanee, Illinois. He was chosen from nominees that included: 2-year-old colt trotters Bands Star and Early Morning Call; 2-year-old filly trotter World Class Geneva; and 3-year-old filly trotter Winsome Wyoming.

Successfully piloted for the majority of the year on the county fair circuit by Ron Van De Rostyne for trainer William Croegaert, Aprilís Wil capped off his successful month in the hands of Hall of Famer Dave Magee. Magee guided the bay horse to a front-stepping five-length win September 1, on World Trotting Derby day at the Du Quoin State Fair in a AA County Fair Challenge. The 1:56.4 timed mile was also a lifetime best.

In 2007, Aprilís Wil visited the winners circle 8 times in 13 starts, finishing second on three occasions and third once, with earnings of nearly $21,000.
