| Balmoral Park (11/19/07) Contact: Tom Kelley RENOVATION PULLS OFF MILD UPSET IN ISOBA STAKE
Patiently handled by leading driver Mike Oosting, this rapidly improving daughter of Art’s Conquest was allowed to save ground throughout the mile as Brenda Place (Brandon Simpson) and Incredible Love (Sam Widger) traded blows up front. Sitting fifth at the pylons in the field of eight after fractions 28.2, 57.0 & 1:26.2, things did not look good for the Jason Wilson-trained filly as the field hit the top of the stretch. Oosting somehow managed to find room for his filly in the final eighth of a mile though, and Renovation responded like a seasoned pro as she powered around and through her rivals to win by a half-length in 1:55.4. Last week’s two Sarah Myers Stakes winners Westside Gritty (Jason Dillander) and Crusin Crimson finished second and third respectively. The win was the first in seven career starts for Renovation who also has a second and a third place finish to her credit. After a suggestive effort in last week’s Sarah Myers Stake, Renovation returned $11.80, $4.00 & $3.60. |
