It may not have been the Governor’s race or getting a long overdue state budget passed but a “Blagojevich” was victorious on Saturday night at Balmoral Park as the two-year-old pacing colt Blagojevich made his first career start a winning one in the seventh race.
While the Governor and the Illinois Legislature continue to lock horns while trying to agree upon a state budget down in Springfield, fans that backed “Blagojevich” at Balmoral Park had their cash crisis solved to the tune of a $10.20 win mutuel. The Dave Magee-driven youngster also keyed a $259.60 trifecta payoff while capping off a monster $15,812.90 Pick 5 payday!
Named for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, this youngster's dam is the aptly named Political Promise. The colt is owned by United States Trotting Association President Phil Langley’s Redbud Stable in partnership with Balmoral Park President John Johnston and Maywood Park President Duke Johnston.
Purchased at the 2006 Cottonwood Farm Yearling sale for $35,000, Blagojevich is the third foal from Political Promise. Earlier arrivals More Than A Story and No Contradiction brought $38,000 & $26,000 respectively at the 2004 & 2005 Cottonwood sales.
