BALMORAL PARK BETTING NEWS

Superfecta wagering will now be expanded to include races one, five and nine. This change will go into effect starting with the matinee card on Saturday, January 20.

The change is in response to the enormous payoffs that the 50 cent Superfecta has generated up to this point. In the first two weeks of 2007, 21 of the 56 Superfecta’s offered this year have yielded 50 cent payoffs of over $1,000 (over $4,000 on a $2 winning ticket). That is truly a value play for your money!

The Pick Five payoffs have been very generous as well. The “newest” wager on the block in Illinois racing has given experts and novices something to shoot for in the latter stages of each night’s racing card. Through the opening two weeks of the meet the average $1 Pick Five payoff is $2,347.38. The Pick Five starts on race seven each night and has a 50 cent minimum.

The ever popular Bal Cal Pick Four swings back into action on Wednesday, January 24. As always this wager will carry a $25,000 guaranteed pool and will be on conducted on the final two races of the night at Balmoral as well as races nine and 10 from Cal-Expo. The Bal-Cal Pick 4 will carry a minimum $1 wager.

Balmoral Park races Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 7:20 p.m. Saturday’s are double-headers days at the Crete oval with post times of 2:30 p.m. and 7:20 p.m.

MAYWOOD PARK BETTING NEWS

Strong business trends continued in the second week of the 2007 season. Significant carryover pools have put the half-mile oval on the national and international map. The power of carryover pools was never more evident than it was on Thursday, January 11.

With an estimated $25,000 Pick Five pool, based on a rollover from their previous Friday card, already attracting a host of gamblers the crowd received yet another chance to play for the “big money” when no one selected the seventh race Superfecta. So in addition to the big Pick 5 pool, a highly energized betting public also had the chance to grab the glory with a Superfecta carryover on race eight. With two big carryover pools staring them directly in the face it truly was a harness handicappers dream!

As expected both wagers were enthusiastically backed at the windows. The Pick Five pool totaled $26,155 while the Superfecta pool swelled to a whopping $39,235. When all wagers were combined, the eighth race handle produced a Thursday high of $169,513.

Both Maywood Park and the I.H.H.A. would like to thank everyone throughout the country for their strong and continued support of exciting half-mile track action.

Maywood Park races Thursday and Friday nights with a first post of 7:20 p.m. This Thursday’s card (Jan. 18th) will feature another carryover chance for fans as $3,949 will be added to the Pick Five pool, bringing the estimated pool to $12,500. The Pick Five starts with the eighth race on Thursday’s card.
