| Balmoral Park (1/9/07) Contact: Tom Kelley BIG PAYOFFS BECOMING THE “NORM” IN 2007 The New Year has started with a bang as plenty of huge payoffs and a bevy of new wagers have fans buzzing at Balmoral Park. The “new” 50 cent Superfecta has been the most lucrative wager on the menu averaging almost $2,000 through the opening week. Last Saturday night’s 6th race produced the biggest payday of the meet returning $12,783 on a 50 cent wager. The return of Quinella wagering has also generated excitement and plenty of healthy returns even with favorites being involved. Last week, 2-1 favorite Wesley Snip combined with 30-1 outsider The Long Goodbye, for a $795 return. The next night, 4-5 favorite Fox Valley Lola and 35-1 longshot VL Fern teamed up for $477 payout. The $5 Quinella is only offered on Race 6 at Balmoral Park. The new 50 cent Pick 5 (races 7-11) has also been an instant hit. With a carryover pool of $5,421 from the Saturday night action, Sunday’s 50 Cent Pick 5 pool swelled to almost $31,000. Balmoral patrons are also enjoying the chance to make 50 cent Pick 4 tickets with the average return on those winners being a healthy $580 for a 50 cent wager. Maywood Park is also off to a quick start in 2007. Opening their 62nd season of racing last Friday night, patrons poured $1,649,712 through the betting windows. When racing resumes at Maywood Park this Thursday there will be a Pick 5 carryover of $7,748. With that carryover Thursday’s Pick 5 pool is estimated to be somewhere around $25,000. Maywood’s Pick 5 is offered on races 8 thru 12. Listed below are the $1 average prices for each wager offered here at Balmoral Park.
