PURIM RETURNS TO WINNER’S CIRCLE IN JOHN HENRY STAKES
Son of Dynaformer Wins Closing Day Feature
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sept. 16, 2007) – Edward J. Sukley’s Purim made a four-wide move into the stretch to win the $47,550 John Henry Stakes by a length at Arlington Park on Sunday, closing day of the track’s 94-day season. Jamie Theriot rode the Tom Proctor-trained son of Dynaformer who covered the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:41.33.
“The horse needed this race to get his confidence back up,” said Theriot of the 5-year-old horse who hadn’t won since capturing the $100,000 Col. E. R. Bradley Stakes at the Fair Grounds in January. “He was much the best today.”
The win was the third in five starts over the Arlington turf for Purim, who won the Grade III Arlington Classic in 2005 and the Illinois Owners Stakes here last year. He earned $28,530 to boost his bankroll to $551,003 while improving his overall record to eight victories from 20 starts.
Prospective Kiss was second in the eight-horse field. It was a head back to third-place finisher Rey Dol Sol. Tiganello, Majestic Zeal, Finance Minister, General Charley and Rapid Proof completed the order of finish.
Purim, the 9-5 favorite, paid $5.60, $3.20 and $2.80. Prospective Kiss returned $5.40 and $3.80. Rey Del Sol paid $2.80.
