ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Aug. 4, 2007) – Wolfe Racing LLC & Hugh Robertson’s City Number rallied in the center of the track to overtake Star by Design in the final stride of the $47,700 Better Bee Stakes by a head in 1:09.92 for the six furlongs over Arlington Park’s Polytrack on Saturday. The Hugh Robertson-trained son of Polish Numbers gave jockey Francisco Torres his first victory on his first day back riding after a lengthy absence.

“He prevailed,” said an elated Torres immediately after the race. “He even overcame my finish as I got a little tired late. I give the credit to Hugh Robertson and the horse. It was for them that carried me through the last 70 yards.”

The Better Bee was the third straight win over Arlington’s synthetic surface and his first in stakes competition. He earned $28,620 to boost his bankroll to $149,630 while bettering his overall record to seven wins from 18 starts.

Star by Design, who led late, held on for second. It was another length back to High Expectations, who finished third in the eight horse field.

Coupled in the wagering with Celluloid Hero and sent off at odds of 2-1, City Number returned $6.60, $3.60 and $2.20. Star By Design returned $4.40 and $3. High Expectations paid $2.60.
