Victory Gives Leading Jockey Douglas Sweep of Weekend Stakes Races

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 3, 2007) – Wertheimer & Frère’s Tiganello, a German-bred son of Acatenango, tipped three-wide at the top of the stretch and drew off to post a one-length tally in the $46,650 Mister Gus Stakes on Sunday at Arlington Park. Rene Douglas rode the Todd Pletcher-trained gelding, who covered the mile over yielding turf in 1:37.88.

“He’s a push button horse,” said Douglas who completed a sweep of the weekend stakes races after capturing Saturday’s Double Delta Stakes with Dreaming of Anna and the Reluctant Guest Stakes with Quiet Royal. “Turning for home I let him go and he accelerated really fast.”

The Mister Gus was Tiganello’s second win in four starts this year and his eighth in 29 starts overall. He picked up $27,990 for Sunday’s score to push his earnings to $343,132 for his owner-breeder combination.

Rapid Proof was second in the field of five. It was another half-length back to third-place finisher Come On Jazz. Prosico and Indy completed the order of finish.

Tiganello, the 4-5 choice of the public, paid $3.60, $2.40 and $2.10. Rapid Proof returned $3 and $2.20. Come On Jazz paid $2.60.
