Trackside Contest to be Included in “Million Dollar Bonus Tour;” Free Play-In Offered Feb. 24

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Feb. 12, 2007) – Arlington Park and its affiliated network of Illinois Trackside OTB facilities will offer handicappers from throughout the Midwest and nationwide two chances to qualify for the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship (NHC) to be held in Las Vegas in January 2008. Each Arlington-sponsored tournament will offer cash prizes as well as three berths into the national tournament, which in 2007 offered more than $800,000 in prize money.

Team Trackside Illinois 2007 will be crowned at a qualifying tournament to be held at Trackside Arlington Park on Saturday, April 7. Registration for the contest, which will be limited to 200 entries with a maximum of two entries per person, costs $175 per entry. Registration for the contest will be available online beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, March 1, 2007, at or by calling Christopher Pepsnik at Arlington Park at (847) 385-7796.

For the first time in 2007, the winner of the Illinois Trackside contest will be eligible for the Twin Spires Club Million Dollar Bonus Tour which will offer a $1 million bonus to any handicapper who wins one of CDI's qualifying tournaments and then goes on to capture the top prize at the 2008 NHC. In order to be eligible for the $1 million bonus, winners of the CDI qualifying rounds must be registered members of the Twin Spires Club prior to their participation in CDI tournaments. Membership in the Twin Spires Club is free.

Also new for 2007 is the chance to earn a free entry into the April 7 tournament by winning a free Play-In Contest to be held at all nine Illinois Trackside locations on Saturday, Feb. 24 utilizing races 4-8 from that day’s card at Hawthorne Race Course. Complete rules for the Trackside OTB Play-In Contest will be available online at and at

Team Arlington Park berths will be awarded at a qualifying tournament to be held at the track on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007. Registration details for the September contest will be made available in July.

Format for the popular tournaments will closely mirror the format used by the NTRA in the national championship where contestants will make mythical $10 win and place wagers on six mandatory races and six races that may be chosen by the contestant from a list of selected racetracks. The mandatory races will be from the Hawthorne Race Course card for the April 7 contest and from Arlington Park’s live card for the September tourney. The person with the highest total bankroll after all 12 wagers have been made will be deemed the contest winner.

Top prize for the April tournament (based on 200 entries) is $10,000 and a berth in the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas in January 2008. Second-place finisher takes home $5,000 and earns a berth in the national contest. Third-place will receive $3,000 and a national contest berth while the fourth-place finisher will win $1,500 and the fifth-place finisher will earn $500. Prize structure for the September tournament will be announced in July.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 94-day meet in 2007 from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, Sept. 16. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates nine off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Rockford, Trackside Waukegan, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry and The Inferno featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit.
