IN SUMMATION HEADS $150,000 ARLINGTON SPRINT

Well-Traveled Grade I Stakes Winner Gets Meet’s Top Jockey

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Aug. 23, 2007) – Grade I stakes winner In Summation, owned by Waterford Stable, invades from his New York homebase after successful stops in New Jersey and California to headline a field of seven entered for Saturday’s $150,000 Arlington Sprint. The local Sprint includes $50,000 in purse money from the Breeders’ Cup Fund for eligible horses.

Trained by Christophe Clement, In Summation won the Grade I Bing Crosby Handicap over Del Mar’s Polytrack surface on July 29 and before that captured the $60,000 Sneakbox Handicap over turf at Monmouth Park. A career earner of more than $670,000, the 4-year-old Put It Back colt has been assigned top weight of 124 pounds for Saturday’s headliner, spotting his rivals from six to 12 pounds, and will be ridden for the first time by four-time Arlington Park champion Rene Douglas.

Pucek, Setzer & Edwards’ Off Duty, second in the weights at 118 pounds, comes in off a victorious wire-to-wire effort in the $50,000 Don Bernhardt at Ellis Park last month. The son of Yes It’s True won the $48,000 Forward Pass here last year but will be making his debut over Polytrack on Saturday. A winner in exactly half of 12 starts, the Lynn Whiting-trained 4-year-old will be ridden by Mark Guidry.

Others in the Arlington Sprint (with jockey and weight assignment listed) are: B Jock LLC’s Piratesonthelake (Diego Sanchez, 112 pounds); Asiel Stable’s Star by Design (Carlos Silva, 114); Stan Fulton’s Buddy Got Even (E. T. Baird, 115); Wolfe Racing & Hugh Robertson’s City Number (Francisco Torres, 114); and S D Brilie Ltd. Partnership’s High Expectations (Chris Emigh, 116).

Of these, City Number rides a three-race win streak over Arlington’s Polytrack including a victory in the $47,700 Better Bee Stakes on Aug. 4, defeating fellow Sprint contestant Star by Design by a length.

High Expectations, third in the Better Bee last out, has two Illinois-bred stakes victories over Arlington’s Polytrack surface this summer.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 94-day meet in 2007 from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, Sept. 16. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates nine off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Rockford, Trackside Waukegan, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry and The Inferno featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit.
