Arlington Park Stakes Advance: Chicago Handicap (Grade III)

Contact: David Zenner

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 14, 2007) – Northern California-based Harry Aleo’s Victorina returns to the Midwest to take on 10 distaff rivals when she heads postward as the 116-pound starting highweight in the $175,000 Chicago Handicap. The Grade III race, which includes $75,000 in purse money from the Breeders’ Cup Fund for eligible horses, is for fillies and mares and will be run on Arlington’s state-of-the-art Polytrack at the distance of seven furlongs.

Victorina, who races in the same orange-toned silks as the ill-fated sprinter Lost in the Fog, has been well-traveled in her 13-race career, starting eight different racetracks. Last time out, the 4-year-old daughter of Delaware Township was unable to overcome an awkward start and finished fourth as the 8-5 favorite in the Grade II Distaff Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Aqueduct in March. In her previous start, the Greg Gilchrist-trained filly won the Princess of Palm Handicap at Turf Paradise. A four-time winner as a 3-year-old, Victorina captured the Grade III Azalea Breeders’ Cup at Calder Race Course during the Florida oval’s 2006 Summit of Speed. Two-time Arlington Park riding champion Aaron Gryder has the mount.

Jim Tafel LLC’s Coolwind looks for her second straight victory at Arlington after winning a third-level allowance optional claiming race here May 17. The 4-year-old Forest Wildcat filly won the Sweetest Chant Stakes here last summer and later ran second in the Grade III Arlington Breeders’ Cup Stakes. Trained by Greg Geier, Coolwind will carry 115 pounds and will be ridden by Eusebio Razo Jr.

Slated to face the top two are (with rider and weight listed): Hugh G. King’s My Chickadee (Chris Emigh, 113 pounds); Joseph Lacombe Stable Inc.’s Trick’s Pic (Alex Estrada, 114); Arbaway Farm & Carson Spring Farms’ Modjadji (James Graham, 114); At the Moment Stables’ Lady Belsara (E. T. Baird, 113); Saud bin Khaled’s Cuaba (Larry Melancon, 115); High Robertson & Homewrecker Racing LLC’s Dimple Pinch (Jesse Campbell, 113); Bob & Nancy Bartels’ Bluesbdancing (Eduardo Perez, 114); Joseph Allen’s Travel Team (Eddie Martin Jr., 112); and Robert & Beverly Lewis Trust’s Trendy Lady (Rene Douglas, 114).

Of these, Trendy Lady comes in off a two-race win skein at Gulfstream Park where the Todd Pletcher-trained daughter of Unbridled’s Song scored by large margins in allowance competition.

Bluesbdancing and Lady Belsara enter as the one-three finishers in the $47,550 Fit For a Queen Stakes here May 19.

Arlington Park – the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. – will run a 94-day meet in 2007 from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, Sept. 16. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates nine off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Chicago, Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Rockford, Trackside Waukegan, Fat Sam’s Bar & Grill featuring Trackside OTB in Lockport, Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin, Nicolino’s featuring Trackside OTB in McHenry and The Inferno featuring Trackside OTB in South Beloit.
