Casino Evil wins Round Table
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (July 15, 2006) -- Casino Evil dueled with Barely Union Scale to prevail by a neck in the $150,000 guaranteed Round Table Stakes. High Blues rallied for third. Favorite Admiral's Arch was wide throughout, and faded to fifth.
The one-eyed three year old stopped the clock in 1:50.12 for the 1 1/8 mile distance after tracking moderate fractions, doubling his winnings to almost $180,000.
"Strategically in this race, I told Francisco (Torres) that we may have been making a mistake in the past running him like he was a one-eyed horse," explained winning trainer Michael Tomlinson. "Let's just go win the race. I told him to try to work his way out, but if he couldn't, just win the race."
Winning jockey Francisco Torres was effusive in praise of the son of Salt Lake: "This horse has had to overcome so much. His blind side is on the right side, so he had to run with my confidence. What a race he ran. We were running all together as one, and we got there all together as one."
Sent off as the second favorite, Casino Evil paid $9.60, $4.80 and $3.20. Barely Union Scale returned $9.00 and $4.60. High Blues paid $4.40. Irish Majesty, Admiral's Arch, Creative Force, Tally Up, Chin High, and Devilofarush completed the order of finish.
