STEVENS TO SPEAK AT HEARINGS
CHICAGO, IL -- Hall of Fame jockey and Eclipse Award winner Gary Stevens is the featured speaker on Monday, July 24th, the final day of hearings sponsored by the Illinois Racing Board. A three-time winner of the Kentucky Derby, he played the role of George Woolf in the acclaimed and Academy Award nominated movie SEABISCUIT. He is scheduled to speak at approximately 11:00 a.m.
The Illinois Racing Board scheduled three days of hearings to address the state of horse racing in Illinois. These hearings dealt with the difficulties and challenges confronting horse racing in Illinois. Other persons scheduled to speak include Dr. Richard Thalheimer, Thalheimer Research Associates; Richard Duchossois, Arlington Park; Steve Holland, Thoroughbred owner; John Walzak, Ontario Harness Horsemenís Association; Ed Martin, Association of Racing Commissioners International; Ervin Miller, Standardbred trainer; Ed Duffy, racetrack executive; and Ed Teefey, Standardbred owner/breeder.
The hearings, chaired by Commissioner John Simon, will be held on the 5th floor at 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois, starting at 10:00 a.m. These hearings are open to the public.
