LUKAS TO SPEAK AT HEARINGS
CHICAGO, IL -- Hall of Fame horse trainer and four-time Eclipse Award winner D. Wayne Lukas is the featured speaker at a public hearing sponsored by the Illinois Racing Board on Tuesday, July 18. In addition to his vast accomplishments on the racetrack, he is also regarded as one of the country’s top motivational speakers. A four-time winner of the Kentucky Derby, no one person has made such an overwhelming impact as D. Wayne Lukas has to the Thoroughbred industry. He is scheduled to speak at approximately 10:00 a.m.
The Illinois Racing Board has scheduled hearings for July 18, 19 and 24 to address the state of horse racing in Illinois. These hearings will deal with the difficulties and challenges confronting horse racing in Illinois. Other persons scheduled to speak on July 18 include Greg Avioli, CEO of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association; prominent thoroughbred horse owner Ed Weil; Eddie Arroyo, Illinois Racing Board Steward; Bill Wright, Chairman of the Illinois Harness Racing Strategic Planning Council; Terry Hunt, owner/operator Cottonwood Farm; and Maywood/Balmoral Park’s Phil Langley.
The hearings, chaired by Commissioner John Simon, will be held on Tuesday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 19 on the 16th floor, room 503, of the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois starting at 10:00 a.m. The hearing on Monday, July 24 will be held on the 5th floor at 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois, also starting at 10:00 a.m. These hearings are open to the public.
