| Hawthorne Racecourse (12/7/06) Contact: DAK Productions Magnetic Miss Eyes Stakes Repeat in Debutante Showtime Deb top three stretch out for rematch Richard Rudolph and Michael Vranich’s Magnetic Miss and Nancy and Richard Kaster’s Rich N Clever, separated by just a neck in the restricted Showtime Deb Stakes over six furlongs three weeks ago, are entered to renew acquaintances in Saturday’s $100,000 Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante. Run over one-mile-and-one-sixteenth, the Whitworth attracted 11 Illinois-bred 2-year-old fillies. Off her victory in the Sun Power, Magnetic Miss has been installed as Jim Miller’s lukewarm 4-1 morning-line favorite. Trained by Joseph “Spanky” Broussard, the daughter of Artax owns three victories from four lifetime starts, bankrolling $98,730 in the process. Programmed as #10, she will leave from the extreme outside post in the field of 11 with Hawthorne’s leading rider Chris Emigh up top. At 9-2, Showtime Deb runner-up Rich N Clever is the second choice in the early odds. Previously trained by Ronnie Werner, the daughter of Richter Scale will make her first start for Gregory Fox on Saturday. E. T. Baird has been given the call, and the team will leave from post three (program #4). Asiel Stable’s Copper State, third last out in the Showtime Deb, has drawn post two for trainer Richard Hazelton and jockey Carlos Silva. The same team is expected to unleash the undefeated 2-year-old colt Caruso, the winner of the Sun Power Stakes three weeks ago, for next Saturday’s $100,000 Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity. After she finished second in her career debut on October 20, trainer Tom Swearingen could have taken a crack at the Sun Power with Greco Racing’s Frances Cat, but he instead opted for another maiden special weight race a week later, and the daughter of Tactical Cat responded with a sharp, 2 ½-length win as the 3-2 post time favorite. Larry Sterling Jr., returns from an early winter vacation specifically to ride this filly, and the team will leave from post position nine. 7th race, $100,000 Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante Stakes, 2 yo, fillies.
