Razo Nearing Return
Top Chicago jockey to work horses on Sunday
Jockey Eusebio Razo Jr., sidelined for five weeks with a separated shoulder, is on target to return to the saddle the middle of next week.
“He got clearance from the doctor,” said Razo’s agent Lindy McDaniel. “He’s going to work a couple of horses on Sunday morning, and if all goes well he’ll be back riding races on Wednesday or Thursday.”
Razo's mishap occurred following the conclusion of the eighth race on Oct. 21 when his mount The Toast Man, with whom he had finished sixth, stumbled 100 yards past the finish line. Razo fell hard to the track, and X-rays later revealed a second-degree shoulder separation.
“He’s been jogging and working out lightly and is itching to get back (in the saddle),” McDaniel said. “He’s never been out this long, knock on wood, and it’s driving him crazy.”
Perennially a top five jockey on the Chicago circuit, Razo was fourth in the fall standings at the time of his injury. He currently sits eighth with 18 wins from 125 starts.
Entering Saturday’s card there are carryover pools at Hawthorne in both the Pick Six ($28,899) and Place Pick Nine ($5,351).
