Photo Reveals Sightings

They were across the wire in the featured $15,500 Filly and Mare Open pace at Hawthorne Sunday night, and after the photograph of the finish was developed, it was Sightings who emerged victorious by the slimmest of margins.

Favored Parklane Powerful came away second from the rail and immediately retook the lead from Madura who left from post two. The field raced in post position order through initial quarters of :28.2 and :57.1. Sightings, sitting in the back of the back of the six horse field couldn’t take it any longer and launched an attack and couldn’t find any takers to assist her in her assault.

Driver Sam Widger rolled the 6-year-old bay daughter of Life Sign right into the line of battle, looking Parklane Powerful right in the eye just past the top of the lane. Tailer Wailer launched from behind Sightings and Little Mischevious sliced between horses inside the 1/8th pole.

As the field hit the wire, Sightings prevailed by a nose over Little Mischevious in 1:54.2, while Tailer Wailer was a head back in third. Easy On The Eyes was only a ½ length back in fourth, while pace-setting Parklane Powerful settled for fifth, just 1 ½ lengths in back of the winner. Perhaps unluckiest of all was Madura, who was stuck behind the faltering Parklane Powerful and came away with no check, but did receive an impeded mark on the charts while finishing just 2 lengths behind the winner.

It was Sightings 6th victory of the season and pushed her seasonal earnings to just over $62,000 for owner-trainer Carol McWilliams.
