Cicero Pacing Series Picture Clears
Highlighting Thursday night racing action at Hawthorne were three divisions of leg two of the Cicero Pacing Series. With four divisions slugging it out in last week’s opening leg one, the ten spots on the starting gate for the $16,700 final on closing night were up for grabs in the three divisions contested on Thursday.
In the first $5,500 division, Mr Bud Weisar came from post 11 in the second tier to score a 3 length victory in 1:54.2. Jason Dillander guided the Ryan Bellamy trainee who was second in last week’s leg one. The Moops finished third but was moved up to second when Spyware, who originally finished second, felt the wrath of the judges for getting into Western Dealer in the lane. Cam’s Magic Halo was placed third.
Macbest came flying down the lane in the second division to subdue Rated Well by ¾’s of a length in a lifetime best 1:54.1. Mike Oosting sat back in seventh early on before uncorking his victorious late kick with Macbest for trainer Ronnie Roberts. Midwich Hanover, who had five claims filed on him in anticipation of the final, finished third.
Nik The Nuke and Dale Hiteman got up in the final strides to defeat Nathans Grandpa in division three. Trained by Randy Tuftie, Nik The Nuke’s 1:54.3 neck victory guaranteed him a spot in the final as Whenthelafterstops finished third.
The top money-earners in the series after leg two are:
1. Mr Bud Weisar $4,000
