Illinois Racing Board amends Trifecta and Superfecta rules

On Wednesday, the Illinois Racing Board released an amendment to the current rules pertaining to Trifecta and Superfecta wagers on Stakes races that greatly increases the wagering opportunities for Saturday’s Night of Champions program at Hawthorne.

Those multiple horse wagers will now be allowed on stakes races with a minimum purse of $20,000, even if entries, either coupled or uncoupled, are programmed, and there shall be no restrictions on minimum betting interests.

Under the previous rule, which called for $50,000 as the cutoff purse to allow Trifecta and Superfecta wagers to be placed with such entries present within a race, it would have crippled Hawthorne’s ability to accept both Trifecta and Superfecta wagers on its Night of Champions card.

The recently instituted amendment will allow bettors to take full advantage of both popular wagers on Saturday night, and into the future.

Hawthorne’s spring 2006 Standardbred meet runs May 6 through June 17 with live racing six days per week: Tuesday through Sunday. Post time is 7:20 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, and opening day, Saturday May 6 (special early post).

Hawthorne’s fall 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs September 15 through December 31 with live racing five days per week: Wednesday through Sunday. Post time is 1:10 p.m.

Hawthorne’s spring 2006 Thoroughbred meet ran February 24 through May 2.
