Battleshoe Victor Triumphs in Leg Two of Eddy Oakley Stake

Driver Dave Magee gave Battleshoe Victor the ultimate perfect trip as the chestnut son of Valley Victor slithered through the rail to register a half length tally in $15,000 leg two of the Eddy Oakley Stake on Sunday night at Hawthorne.

The race took an unexpected turn right at the get-go as 8-5 favorite Victor’s Pursuit, who was the victress in leg one of the stake series, made a break before the start and virtually eliminated any chance of repeat victory. Battleshoe Victor left hard from post four and quickly established an early lead. The Vicster then attacked from third for driver Tim Tetrick and assumed command at the half, clocked in :57.

Arcola launched an assault on the lead going to the three-quarter pole and The Victser and Arcola battled head and head all the way down the lane. Just inside the 1/16th pole, Dave Magee who was sitting patiently behind The Vicster with Battleshoe Victor, finally found a sliver of room and he moved the Tom Harmer trainee inside of The Vicster. Once clear, Battleshoe Victor shot through the inside opening and got up for the half length victory over The Victser in 1:55, while Arcola finished well for third.

Battleshoe Victor enters the final this Saturday on the Night Of Champions as the leading money-winner in the series. He was not originally nominated to the series, but was supplemented for $5,500 by owner Michael Polansky. The top money earners in the series are:

1. Battleshoe Victor $8,700
2. The Vicster $6,250
3. Victor’s Pursuit $5,000
4. Arcola $2,600
5. Southern Victoria K $1,250
6. Lifes A Holiday $1,200
7. American Lane $0
8. Dabra $0
9. Pa-High $0

Also featured on the Sunday night card were three divisions of leg one of the Forest View Pacing Series. In the first $4,000 division, Fox Valley Octavia (Tim Tetrick) defeated Eeny Rellim by a ˝ length in 1:56.2 as Perfect Alibi finished third.

In the second division, Mack Mandi and driver Randy Jacobs were victorious at 30-1, defeating Dani’s Star by a length in the 1:56.4 mile. Winter Glitter was an easy winner in division three as Tim Tetrick guided the public’s choice to victory over Funny Place in 1:54.4. Dazzling Artie came on late to grab the third spot.
