No Opposition For This Illinois Champ
Loyal Oppositions homecoming successful; Bow Wow Wine and Street Dancer Capture Divisions of Leg Two of Plum Peachy Stake
Loyal Opposition made a triumphant return to the track where her career started as the multi-millionaire daughter of Cole Muffler cruised to a 1 ½ length victory over Parklane Powerful in leg two of the $15,000 stake named after her.
Reserved early as Lou Annie and Fox Valley Fussy battled through a :26.4 opening quarter, driver Dave Magee moved the Erv Miller trainee to the top just past the half and turned for home a length and half to the good. For all practical purposes the race was over as Loyal Opposition opened up a 3 length advantage in the lane and was a comfortable winner in 1:51.4. Lou Annie held on well to save the third spot.
Loyal Opposition will be one of the big stars on Hawthornes second annual Night Of Champions on Saturday, June 3. The $48,000 Loyal Opposition Stake will be one of seven big championship stakes featuring the very best Illinois Bred stars.
The top money earners after two legs in the Loyal Opposition Stake are:
1. Parklane Powerful $8,750
In the first division of leg two of the $12,000 Plum Peachy Stake for 3 year-old Illinois Bred pacing fillies, Bow Wow Wine was an impressive winner. The daughter of The Big Dog got moving earlier this week as Tim Tetrick moved from the back of the pack approaching the half.
With the rest of the field content to sit in behind the pace-setting 3-2 favorite Free, Bow Wow Wine was forced to do all of the work with her first-over attack. At the top of the lane Free and Bow Wow Wine were head and head, but Bow Wow Wines final panel of :26.1 was too much for Free (Sam Widger) as she ended up in second in the 1:54 mile, a length and a quarter behind the winner. Shes A Big Star came on to garner third.
Street Dancer left no doubt about who was the best in the second $12,000 division as daughter of Richess Hanover went right to the top and was left alone by the rest of the field. The Nelson Willis trainee cruised through pedestrian panels of :28, :58, and 1:28.1 and when driver Dale Hiteman asked for a little response at the top of the stretch, Street Dancer accelerated with an easy :26.1 final quarter.
The result was a simplistic 2-length victory over Just Believe in 1:54.2, while Little Sweetheart saved third. The $47,500 Plum Peachy Stake Final will be one of the feature races at Hawthornes Night Of Champions next Saturday evening.
The final top ten money earners after two legs of the Plum Peachy Stake are:
1. Street Dancer $10,000
