Free and Street Dancer Efforts Just Peachy

Parklane Powerful Captures Leg One Loyal Opposition Stake

Horses of the female persuasion took center stage at Hawthorne on Friday as two $8,000 divisions of leg one of the Plum Peachy Stake and a $10,000 leg one of the Loyal Opposition Stake shared featured race status.

In the Plum Peach for 3-year-old Illinois-Bred filly pacers, Free came from the back of the pack as driver Sam Widger guided the daughter of Armbro Mackintosh to a neck victory over Sherri On Ice. Driven by Dave Magee, Sherri On Ice was sent to top just past the quarter and held that position every step of the way until it counted. Just Believe rallied for third money in the first division timed in 1:53.4.

Dale Hiteman used a perfect journey to his advantage as he shot out of the pocket with Street Dancer at the 1/8th pole and collared the pace-setting favorite Red White Blues to score in division two of the Plum Peachy in 1:53.2. Bow Wow Wine came from dead last to garner second money with a :26 flat final panel while finishing 2 ĵ lengths behind the winner. Red White Blues managed to salvage third.

The Loyal Opposition, for 4-year-old and up state bred pacing distaffers, went to Parklane Powerful in 1:53. Lou Annie once again shot to the lead but had to work a little harder this week as Fox Valley Fussy pushed the pace leaving from inside of her. Dale Hiteman didn’t wait this time as he charged up from the caboose position and hooked up with her chief nemesis. In the lane, Parklane Powerful charged away to the lead and held off the fast-closing Ft Apache Annie to register a ½ length triumph. Fox Valley Fussy stayed inside and earned third money, while Lou Annie faded to fourth.

The top ten money winners in the Plum Peachy and the Loyal Opposition will return to do battle in $50,000 est. finals in their respective divisions on Hawthorne’s Night Of Champions, Saturday, June 3.
