Red Hot Sherri Looks to Ice White Sox Pace Final
Sherri On Ice was no match for Street Dancer as a 2-year-old, but this is a new year. On Friday night at Hawthorne she’ll look to get the best of that talented rival and eight other females, while keeping her undefeated season intact in the $24,000 White Sox Pace Final.
A winner of just one of nine starts in 2005, Sherri On Ice has come out on fire this season for trainer Jim Eaton, capturing all three starts in highly impressive fashion. She has been installed as Tony Simone’s 2-1 morning line favorite for Friday night’s Final off her elimination win.
In her opening night score, Sherri On Ice, the 4-5 favorite, sat fourth on the rail for the opening half mile and moved outside nearing the turn for home for driver Dave Magee. Despite being parked without cover for the final half, she was able to wear down a stubborn Grow to prevail by a length in a new life mark of 1:53 1/5 over a fast track. It was a 1 ¼ lengths further back to EZ Fortune in third. Sherri On Ice, programmed as #4, will leave from post position number three in the Final.
The multiple stakes winning Street Dancer will provide very stiff competition. A winner of eight of ten career starts for trainer Nelson Willis, she swings back for the White Sox Pace Final off a highly impressive elimination win of her own.
Much like Sherri On Ice, Street Dancer, the 3-5 chalk, sat on the rail for the opening half here last Saturday before pulling just past the half mile marker for Dale Hiteman. She raced without cover to the wire, and wore down the rapidly improving Greek Wine to get the job done by ¾ of a length. It was the same margin back to Devon On The Beach in third. Street Dancer’s final time of 1:53 was one tick quicker than that of Sherri On Ice. Programmed as #2 Street Dancer leaves from the rail, is the second choice in the odds at 3-1.
The top five finishers from each elimination will compete in Friday night’s White Sox Pace Final, which is programmed as the eighth of 11 races.
