Roger Welch’s Dynamic Duo Dominate Muscles Marinara Trot Eliminations at Hawthorne

Trainer Roger Welch will have a double-barreled opportunity in next Sunday’s $25,000 est. Muscles Marinara Trot Final as a pair of his pupils captured separate elimination races on the Sunday night card at Hawthorne.

In the first $10,000 elimination, Dave Magee was in the pilot’s seat behind Victor’s Pursuit in the 1:55.2 triumph. The 4-year-old daughter of Valley Victor saw her lifetime bankroll swell to over $225,000 and her 2006 record remained unblemished in three starts this season. The veteran Lifes A Holiday was sent right to the top by driver Homer Hochstetler and the winner of over $700,000 fought gamely until the end, holding off everyone save the winner.

Arcola virtually matched her stablemate’s performance in the second elimination as Tim Tetrick guided the Valley Victory 4-year-old lass to a half length victory over Southern Victoria K in 1:55.3. The Welch trainee came from dead last at the head of the lane to register her first victory of the year and padded her lifetime past the $320,000 mark.

The top five finishers from the two eliminations will return for next week’s finale.

Also featured on the Sunday night card was a $15,500 Filly and Mare Open Pace and going pillar to post for driver Dale Hiteman was Parklane Powerful. The Sportsmaster mare, trained by Homer Hochstetler, made every call a winning one as she scored her 42nd lifetime victory. Sightings was a length back in second in the 1:53 mile.
