Illinois Champions Day -- A Handicapper’s Delight
A plethora of stakes action, the $50,000 Midwest Championship Handicapping Contest & book signings give fans multiple reasons to enjoy live racing at Hawthorne on Saturday!
With six, wide-open $100,000 stakes highlighting the ten-race Illinois Champions Day card, bettors are chomping at the bit to punch some lucrative winning tickets, but there are additional reasons for both racing experts and aspiring handicappers alike to venture out to Hawthorne on Saturday.
Hawthorne’s Spring Series Championship wrapped up last Sunday, and when the dust cleared, James Sypula emerged as the king of the handicapping hill. In a presentation following the first race on Saturday, Sypula will receive his championship jacket and trophy, and will be awarded a two-year lease on a hemi-powered 2006 Dodge Charger, courtesy of Frank Mancari. Top five finishers (listed below) will receive an entry into the Gold Coast Summer Classic, to be held at the Gold Coast Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 20-22. The package includes hotel accommodations and a $500 travel voucher.
