It’s Happening at Hawthorne in the Coming Weeks
A sensational edition of the Grade II Illinois Derby may sadly be in our rear view mirrors, but there's plenty of good stuff to look forward to for the remainder of the Hawthorne meet. Mark your calendars, and be sure to join us often!
Friday, April 14 -- Stick It to Da Man Friday! Triple Points on the Club Hawthorne card are again being offered on for all wagers made on on-track on the live product. Post time is 3 p.m. Reduced admission prices, food and drink specials, and your last chance to enter the “Best Seat in the House” Sweepstakes!
Saturday, April 15 -- The Spring Series of handicapping contests continues on “Super Saturday.” Ten qualifying spots for the $50,000 Midwest Championship (April 29-30) are up for grabs in this satellite event.
Friday, April 21 -- The first grass race of the season is scheduled as we Stick It To Da Man with another 3 p.m. Friday post (reduced admission prices, food and drink specials). Two or three turf races per day will be carded the final two weeks of the meet.
Saturday, April 22 -- Hawthorne will present a pair of Grade III races for handicap routers: the National Jockey Club Handicap for the boys and the Sixty Sails for the girls. Also, the “Down to the Wire” Spring Series handicapping contest offers fans ten qualifying spots to the Midwest Championship.
Sunday, April 23 -- The Spring Series handicapping champion will be crowned upon the completion of the Spring Series Finale satellite. Ten Midwest Championship entries will once again be up for grabs.
Saturday, April 29 -- Illinois Champions Day with six $100,000 stakes restricted to Prairie Staters on the docket. One of the best wagering days of the year in Chicagoland!
Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 -- The $50,000 Midwest Championship handicapping contest will be held. According to Hawthorne's marketing director Joe Scurto, less than 25 entries remain for the lucrative handicapping contest. Top prize is $20,000. If you haven’t secured your entry yet, do so right away. Call Monique Mahler at 708-780-3700.
Saturday, May 6 -- The simulcast of the Kentucky Derby and other top races from Churchill and around the country during the day, and the opening of Hawthorne’s 2006 summer harness meet at night (post time at 7:20 p.m.). Come for the Derby, stay for live harness racing!
Hawthorne’s spring 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs February 24 through May 4 with live racing five days per week: Friday through Tuesday. Post time is 1:10 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday and 3 p.m. on Friday. Hawthorne is dark Wednesdays and Thursdays and Easter Sunday April 16, but full card simulcasting from racetracks across the country is offered every day.
Hawthorne’s summer 2006 Standardbred meet runs May 6 through June 17 with live racing six days per week: Tuesday through Sunday. Post time will be 7:20 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Hawthorne’s fall 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs September 15 through December 31 with live racing five days per week: Wednesday through Sunday. Post time will be 1:10 p.m.
