“Stick it to Da Man” Fridays Offer Fans Great Value
Starting with the March 31 program and for the remainder of the spring Thoroughbred racing season, the first race on Fridays at Hawthorne will leave the starting gate at 3 p.m., and management has implemented several “Stick it to Da Man” promotions intended to give fans more bang for their buck.
“Everyone in the Chicago area is beginning to get a bit of spring fever,” said Hawthorne’s Director of Marketing Joe Scurto. “Hawthorne is a great place to meet up, have a few beers, hit a few winners, and blow off some steam.”
“We have put together a promotion schedule for these 3 p.m. Fridays that leaves no excuse for people not to come out. It is inexpensive, a lot of fun, and you get to Stick it to Da Man!” Scurto continued.
Hawthorne has announced the following promotions for “Stick it to Da Man” Fridays:
“When the weather warms up, the last thing I want is to be stuck at work at the end of the week,” said Charles Satarino, a downtown Chicago employee and Illinois racing fan. “This (the 3 p.m. Friday post) is a sweet move by Hawthorne. The track is close enough to city that I can work a half-day and still get there for the first race with plenty of time to spare. I’ve already requested the afternoon off for the next five Fridays.”
Hawthorne’s spring 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs February 24 through May 4 with live racing five days per week: Friday through Tuesday. Post time is 1:10 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday and 3 p.m. on Friday. Hawthorne is dark Wednesdays and Thursdays and Easter Sunday April 16, but full card simulcasting from racetracks across the country is offered every day.
The Grade II $500,000 Illinois Derby, a prestigious prep for the world famous Kentucky Derby, will be run at Hawthorne on Saturday, April 8.
