Leading Rider Emigh Drops Appeal, Accepts 3-Day Suspension
Hawthorne’s leading rider Chris Emigh has dropped his appeal of a suspension handed down by the stewards last December at Hawthorne, and will begin serving the three-day punishment term on Monday, March 20.
Emigh was hit with the suspension after being disqualified from a win aboard Win Me Over on December 10, 2005, for “crossing in front of, and impeding the progress of another horse.”
In Illinois, riders can pay a $1,500 fine in lieu of serving a suspension once per calendar year. Emigh exhausted that option earlier in the 2005 season.
Entering Sunday’s action, Emigh, who has won each of the last three titles here, owns a commanding lead in the jockey’s standings with 27 wins from 95 mounts, 11 more than Jesse Campbell. He will return to action on Saturday, March 25.
Hawthorne Race Course is located in Stickney, Illinois. Their spring 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs through May 4 with live racing five days per week – Friday through Tuesday. Post time is 1:10 p.m. daily, but on March 31, Friday post times will shift to 3 p.m. for the duration of the spring season. Hawthorne is dark Wednesdays and Thursdays and Easter Sunday April 16, but full card simulcasting from racetracks across the country is offered every day.
