Hawthorne Backs Up Friday Post Time to 3 p.m. Beginning March 31
Beginning with the March 31 program, and for the duration of the spring Thoroughbred meet, post time for Hawthorne’s live racing card on Fridays will be 3 p.m. The starting time for all other programs remains 1:10 p.m.
"We have talked about doing this (switching to 3 p.m. post on Fridays) for a couple of years now, and thought the timing was right to try something new,” said Hawthorne National general manager Ed Duffy. “Once spring hits, the weather is nicer, the days are longer, and people are energized to get out and enjoy themselves.”
“More than half of live Thoroughbred racing in Illinois is conducted during the week when most people are at work.” Duffy continued. “By backing up our Friday post to 3 p.m., we give our fans a better opportunity to enjoy live racing."
Post time for Hawthorne’s Friday, March 24, program remains at 1:10 p.m., with 3 p.m. posts kicking in the following Friday, March 31.
Hawthorne’s marketing department is in the process of finalizing several promotions to tie in with 3 p.m. Fridays, and announcements on the specifics will be forthcoming.
Hawthorne Race Course is located in Stickney, Illinois. Their spring 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs through May 4 with live racing five days per week – Friday through Tuesday. Post time is 1:10 p.m. daily, but on March 31, Friday post times will shift to 3 p.m. for the duration of the spring season. Hawthorne is dark Wednesdays and Thursdays and Easter Sunday April 16, but full card simulcasting from racetracks across the country is offered every day.
