Hawthorne Cancels Monday’s Final Eight Races

Due to high westerly winds of 35 m.p.h. which gusted to 50 m.p.h., Hawthorne Race Course cancelled the remainder of their Monday card following the day’s first race.

“Management and the jockeys agreed that the winds made the conditions unsafe for the horses and the riders,” said assistant general manager Jim Miller.

A $2 Daily Double of #3 (first race winner) with all returns $5.20. Pick Three wagers were refunded.

Those who attended live racing at Hawthorne can present the Monday, March 13 program to receive free admission for any single remaining day of the spring meet.

Live racing is expected to resume, as scheduled, on Tuesday, March 14 with a first post of 1:10 p.m.

Hawthorne spring 2006 Thoroughbred meet runs through May 4 with live racing five days per week – Friday through Tuesday. Post time is 1:10 p.m. daily, but on March 31, Friday post times will shift to 3 p.m. for the duration of the spring season. Hawthorne is dark Wednesdays and Thursdays and Easter Sunday April 16, but full card simulcasting from racetracks across the country is offered every day.
