Hawthorne Race Course Wows the Crowd with the $50,000 Midwest Championship Handicapping Tournament

STICKNEY, IL – Hawthorne Race Course has added another exciting tournament to their upcoming Spring Series of handicapping by announcing the $50,000 Midwest Championship to be held on April 29 & 30, 2006. This two-day handicapping extravaganza is expected to draw players from all around the U.S. and Canada. Players can reserve their place in the biggest handicapping tournament that the Midwest has ever seen beginning on Saturday, January 14, 2006. One hundred lucky winners will also satellite into the big event via Hawthorne’s Spring Series of Handicapping tournaments.

The $50,000 Midwest Championship will be an exciting two days for all players and is sure to test each player’s handicapping and money management skills. Every player will be given a fictitious $1,200 bankroll and must bet at least ten percent of their bankroll in each of six races and up to a maximum bet of fifty percent of their bankroll. As a part of the contest package each participant will receive a 2006 Annual Pass, catered lunch, and a Daily Racing Form as a part of their contest package. The Midwest Champion will be crowned at the end of the two day event and receive $20,000 in cash as top prize, along with a Midwest Championship jacket and trophy. A first day leader bonus of $5,000 will also be awarded as part of the competition. The field will be limited to 250 entries.

Director of Marketing, Joe Scurto sees this tournament as an opportunity to establish Hawthorne Race Course as a premier tournament destination. “This is a big time tournament that does not require horseplayers to fly to Las Vegas to compete. We are envisioning players flying from Las Vegas to Chicago to play. There are not many places that offer you an annual pass worth over $300 and a shot at winning twenty grand for just $200.”

Ralph Simon sees the $50,000 Midwest Championship in particular, as a fantastic opportunity to win some major money and have a great time while doing it. “I come out every weekend to play in these tournaments and there’s no way that I am going to miss out on $50,000 in prize money.”

Entries for the $50,000 Midwest Championship open on Saturday, January 14 at 11 am. The tournament is limited to 250 players and only 150 entries will be sold. Entries are expected to sell out early as the tournament buzz has already started, so be sure to be one of the first in line to register. The contest participation fee is $200 or 10,000 Club Hawthorne points.
