Lets Get It Started tops Cottonwood Farm yearling sale

Cottonwood Farm held its 13th annual yearling sale at the farm in Big Rock on September 10, 2006.

The sale mirrored the current uncertain economic climate of the Illinois racing program. Top stakes prospects sold well, but the market for raceway and county fair horses continued to suffer.

The original catalog contained 114 yearlings - but after withdrawals, RNAs, and passouts a total of 86 yearlings were sold. The sale grossed $1,226,500 for an average of $14,262. Colts averaged $18,150 as compared to $10,188 for fillies. Perennial leader Cole Muffler had 41 yearlings sell for an average of $20,663. His colts yielded $25,652 and his fillies brought $15,425 on average.

Lets Get It Started (a Cole Muffler full brother to Enemy At The Gate) was the top selling colt at $62,000 for Desyllas Racing and Bill Beck. It's Amazing (a Cole Muffler full sister to Loyal Opposition) was the highest priced filly, also at $62,000 for Mystical Marker Farms. John Carver purchased All Things New (an Art's Conquest full brother to Live Out Loud) for $55,000. Lloyd Arnold is the new owner of Just The Way Itis (a Cole Muffler full brother to Big Tom) after signing a $50,000 ticket. Shirley LeVin bought True Forever ( a Cole Muffler full brother to Kiss Of Heaven) for $47,000.

A total of 15 yearlings sold for $25,000 or more including. King Of Kings (a Cole Muffler half brother to 3 $100K winners) was purchased for $39,000 by Ron Michelon and Lloyd Arnold from the Jeff Jones consignment. Blagojevich (a Cole Muffler colt out of Political Promise) was a $35,000 purchase by the Redbud Stable. Desyllas Racing and Bill Beck also got The Voice Of Truth (a Cole Muffler full brother to Honest Lawyer) for $30,000.

Tom Harmer had the final bid on Author Of Life (an Artiscape colt) for $28,000. Arch-S-Golden Stables and Mark Fransen purchased Radiant Truth (a colt from the first crop of Allamerican Native) for $28,000. Dick Fish consigned Sea B Skipalong (a Cole Muffler colt) who was a $27,000 acquisition by Z Tam Racing Stable. Z Tam also won the bid for I Choose You (a Cole Muffler colt) for $26,000. Bring You Honor (a colt by Cole Muffler) was purchased by Rob Ritoff for $26,000. Al Johnson bought Matrix Revolution (a Cole Muffler full brother to Dreams Made Real) for $25,000. Erv Miller selected Cherry Tree Coco (a Cole Muffler full sister to the newest world champion Home Bed Advantage) for $25,000.

The stallion service auction generated $14,000 for Equine Dreams due to the generosity of Dr. Ken and Patricia Walker, Steve Beam and Tom Amundsen.

Cottonwood Farm would like to thank everyone who attended our sale, and we wish all the new owners the very best of luck.
