STARS OF SUMMER SET TO SHINE ON SATURDAY NIGHT!
Over $700,000 in purse money will be up for grabs on Saturday night at Balmoral Park as the Crete oval presents its first ever “Stars Of Summer” program. Leading the way is the $272,000 American National Stake Final for three-year-old pacing colts. There will also be a total of eight $50,000 tussles for every age category of Illinois bred pacers and trotters. Also on tap is the 1 ˝ mile Mikes A Mystery Stake for aged state-bred trotters.
The featured American National goes as race six on the big 14 program which gets underway at 7:20 p.m. With a jackpot of $272,000 this marks the richest “open” stake of the season at Balmoral Park.
Genesis Stables Jereme’s Jet, a winner of more than $1 million during his two-year-old season, has been installed as the 3-1 favorite in the field of 10. Leaving from post position four last week’s fastest elimination winner (1:49.4) will once again have the services of Hall of Fame reinsman Dave Magee.
Devilfish, who drew into the race after making a break in his elimination last week, is a close second choice at 7-2. The lightly raced son of Cam’s Card Shark stunned the harness racing world when he made his debut a winning one in 1:51.2 at Hawthorne earlier this season. The Erv Miller trainee followed that up with victories in 1:50.1 & 1:50.2 before shipping to the Meadowlands where he made a break after leading the field through the opening three-quarters of a mile in a blazing 1:20.3. Dale Hiteman gets the drive behind this promising youngster.
Others who figure to garner their fare share of support include Illinois breds Thisbigdogwillfight, (9-2) who won his elimination in 1:50.2 last week, and Fox Valley Tribal (6-1) who was just a head behind Thisbigdogwillfight last week.
Balmoral Park will also be giving away a brand new Harley Davidson motorcycle courtesy of Crete Harley Davidson. Fans have until 8:00 p.m to sign up for that drawing.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and once again the first race will be contested at 7:20 p.m.
