SUPER SPRINTER NICOLE’S DREAM CONTINUES TURF DOMINANCE

Mare Beats the Boys in Five-Furlong Grass Dash

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (July 4, 2006) -- Dare to Dream Stable LLC’s Nicole’s Dream continued to display her affinity for the Arlington Park turf course by besting six male runners in the $42,000 Smile Stakes on July 4. E. T. Baird rode the 6-year-old daughter of Northern Trend, who covered the “about” five-furlong distance in 57.32 seconds, after sitting in second position for the first three-eighths of a mile.

“I could have gone to the lead with her, had I wanted to,” said Baird. “She’s that quick. She can come from off the pace. It just happens that she has so much natural speed that she ends up on the lead. If somebody else wants to go, that’s not a problem and she proved that today.”

The win was her ninth in 11 starts over the Arlington turf and her 22nd in 47 trips to the post overall. The $25,200 earned for the two-length Smile victory pushed her bankroll to $629,374. Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, she paid $4.40, $2.80 and $2.10.

Rockhurst rallied from far back to finish second in the seven-horse field and paid $3.60 and $2.80. It was another 3 ˝ lengths back to Danieltown, who paid $4.60.

Jump for Joyeux, Popsa Yankee, Sampson’s Son and Wonone completed the order of finish.
