HIGH EXPECTATIONS HAS MOMENT OF ZEN
Gelding Wins Prairie State Festival Prep
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 4, 2006) -- J. Denker and S. D. Brilie Ltd. Partnership’s High Expectations, winner of the $88,900 Springfield Stakes during last year’s Prairie State Festival, prepped for a possible start in either the $75,000 White Oak Handicap or $75,000 Black Tie Affair Handicap in this year’s Festival with an impressive four-length tally in the $41,625 Zen Stakes on Sunday at Arlington Park. He covered the seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:22.00.
The Christine Janks-trained son of Peaks and Valleys, who was ridden by Francisco Torres, rallied from far back while racing wide into the stretch to notch the victory, his fifth in seven starts at Arlington. He earned $24,975 to boost his bankroll to $207,194.
“I told Cisco, ‘When this horse starts to move, you can’t him stopped,’” said Janks. “He’s one of those horses that just gets rolling. He made a good move going wide so he wouldn’t get stopped. He’s really rounding into form.”
Barely Union Scale, who raced up close throughout, finished second, a neck clear of third-place finisher Silver Bid. Iron Rouge, Storm Coming and Rucker completed the order of finish.
High Expectations, the 7-5 favorite, paid $4.80, $3.20 and $2.40. Barely Union Scale returned $6.60 and $3.60. Silver Bid paid $2.40.
