PRETTY JENNY TAKES FIT FOR A QUEEN STAKES
Illinois-Bred Filly Beats Open Company Distaffers
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 20, 2006) -- Illinois-bred filly Pretty Jenny, who races in the colors of Arbaway Farm, Carson Springs Farm and the Estate of William Lydon, changed tactics and came from off the pace to win the $41,750 Fit For A Queen Stakes by a length Saturday at Arlington Park. Arlington newcomer Ariel Smith was aboard the Christine Janks-trained filly for the first time.
“I told Ariel to take her back without fighting with her but to get her to relax,” said Janks, explaining the change in style for the former front-running daughter of Pioneering. “When I saw those speed horses out there (on the front end) and her way back there, I was loving that because I know she can kick in. She went wide into the stretch because she’s never had dirt kicked into her face before.”
Pretty Jenny covered the six furlongs in a speedy 1:09.36 and paid $6.80, $4.60 and $3.20. The Fit For A Queen Stakes was the sixth victory in eight starts for the 4-year-old homebred filly and the $25,050 winner’s share boosted her bankroll to $217,508.
Maggie Jordan was second in the seven-horse field and paid $8.40 and $5.20. Third-place finisher Tax Refund returned $4.40.
Silver Crown, Eyes On Eddy, Grand Portege and Guiding Star completed the order of finish.
