RICH FANTASY EASY WINNER IN RIBBON HANDICAP
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 13, 2006) -- Oxbow Racing LLC’s Rich Fantasy battled longshot Lillians Choice for a half-mile, put that rival away at the top of the stretch and drew off for a decisive six-length victory in the $49,600 Ribbon Handicap on Saturday at Arlington Park. Francisco Torres rode the Ronny Werner-trained daughter of Richter Scale who covered the six furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:09.51 after fractions of 22.17, 45.27 and 57.22.
The win was the first this year for the Illinois-foaled 3-year-old filly, who twice finished second in stakes races this year including a runner-up placing in the $100,000 Lady Hallie Stakes at Hawthorne Race Course in her last trip to the post. Overall, her record improved to three wins and two seconds from seven starts, and the $33,900 winner’s check boosted her earnings to $135,955.
Coolwind, a graded stakes-placed filly, rallied for second money, three-quarters of a length ahead of Lizzy’s Township, who finished third in the six-horse field. Jazzy Okie, Keystone Gulch and Lillians Choice completed the order of finish.
Rich Fantasy, the 9-10 favorite, paid $3.80, $2.40 and $2.10. Coolwind returned $3.80 and $2.80. Lizzy’s Township paid $3.
