Champaign, Illinois Resident Earns $11,000 Winners Share and Berth in DRF/NTRA Contest

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 10, 2006) -- Charles Stephens’s three-hour drive to Arlington Heights proved to be worth every minute as the Champaign, Illinois resident took home top prize of $11,000 in the Trackside OTB DRF/NTRA Handicapping Contest Qualifier. In addition, Stephens earned one of three berths into the DRF/NTRA Handicapping Challenge to be held in Las Vegas in January 2007.

Stephens finished the competition with a bankroll of $382, which was earned by making $10 win or place wagers on 12 races, six of which were mandatory races with the contestant being able to pick the other six races from a selection of tracks.

Finishing second in the local contest, which had 200 entries, was Mark Stanford of Wayne, New Jersey. Stanford, whose bankroll totaled $327, earned $5,000 and a berth in the DRF/NTRA Handicapping Challenge.

Third-place went to Gerry Stoiber of Mokena, Illinois, whose bankroll of $301.50 was a mere half-dollar better than fourth-place finisher Alex Slivensky of Townsend, Wisconsin. Stoiber earned $3,000 and a DRF/NTRA Handicapping Challenge starting berth while Slivensky picked up $1,000.

Arlington Park will host a second DRF/NTRA Handicapping Challenge qualifier on Sunday, Sept. 10 with registration for that tournament to begin on Aug. 16.
