‘GOULDINGS’ GOES FOR THE GREEN IN GRADE III HANSHIN CUP

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 25, 2006) -- Melnyk Racing Stables Inc.’s Gouldings Green, winner of the $114,000 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs earlier this month, tops a well-matched field of five older horses entered for Saturday’s Grade III $100,000 Hanshin Cup. The one-mile Hanshin is the first of 17 graded stakes races to be contested at Arlington Park this summer.

A 5-year-old son of 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness hero Charismatic, Gouldings Green ran second in last year’s Hanshin, beaten only a half a length by Lord of the Game. He has only raced four times since, notching a pair of victories in three starts this season. Trained by Tony Reinstedler, Gouldings Green will be ridden by Corey Lanerie and carry top impost of 118 pounds, spotting his rivals from one to four pounds.

Ken Meeker & Caron Springs Farm’s Fifteen Rounds is one of two horses assigned 117 pounds by Racing Secretary Kevin Greely. The 6-year-old Fit to Fight gelding has won eight of 11 races over the Arlington Park main track including the $150,000 Arlington Breeders’ Cup Sprint last summer. The Christine Janks charge was able to stretch his speed to a mile last time out in capturing the $39,925 Timeless Native Stakes. Chris Emigh has the mount Saturday.

Also in at 117 pounds is Hugh Robertson and Homewrecker Racing LLC’s Three Hour Nap, winner of the Grade III Arlington-Washington Breeders’ Cup Futurity in 2004. The 4-year-old son of Afternoon Deelites has won two of four starts this year including the Grade III $250,000 National Jockey Club Handicap at Hawthorne Race Course in April. Six for 12 in his career, Three Hour Nap will be ridden by Francisco Torres.

Robert & Beverly Lewis Trust’s With Distinction comes into the Hanshin off a second-place run in the Grade II Churchill Downs Handicap on the Kentucky Derby Day undercard. Earlier this year, the 5-year-old son of Storm Cat captured the Grade III El Conejo Handicap at Santa Anita Handicap. Trained by Hall of Fame conditioner D. Wayne Lukas, With Distinction will carry 116 pounds and will be ridden by Eddie Martin Jr.

Completing the field for the Hanshin is Double Bogey Stable’s Semaphore Man. The 4-year-old son of Formal Gold finished second in the $47,000 Prairie Express Stakes at Prairie Meadows in his last start after winning a couple of allowance races at Oaklawn Park earlier this year. Larry Sterling Jr. has the mount aboard the Don Von Hemel-trained gelding.

Arlington Park –- the Chicago area’s premier Thoroughbred racetrack located in Arlington Heights, Ill. -– will run a 95-day meet in 2006 from Friday, May 5 through Tuesday, Sept. 12. Arlington Park, whose parent company is Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates eight off-track, simulcast-wagering facilities: Trackside Arlington Park (Arlington Heights), Trackside Quad City Downs (East Moline), Trackside Chicago, Trackside McHenry, Trackside Rockford, Trackside South Beloit, Trackside Waukegan and Lucky’s featuring Trackside OTB in South Elgin.
