Hawthorne Posts Record Handle Day

STICKNEY, IL -- Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Day proved to be a big day at Belmont Park for handle and it was as well at Hawthorne. Hawthorne’s live ten-race card posted the largest single day handle in the history of the track for the day’s handle on the live product. Spurred by strong out-of-state wagering, Hawthorne surpassed the $6 million mark for the card, handling $6,594,136 for the ten-race card. The prior handle record was established on last year’s Breeders’ Cup day with $5,608,141.

“The weather and placement of our races helped immensely,” stated Hawthorne’s Assistant General Manager Jim Miller. “We have had full fields all meet long, averaging near 9 starters per race and the support we received from tracks out of state, especially on Saturday, was excellent.”

Hawthorne races through the winter, concluding the fall Thoroughbred season on Monday, January 2. Hawthorne races live every Wednesday through Sunday, excluding Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
