HAWTHORNE RACE COURSE
| Hawthorne Racecourse (9/19/05) Contact: Jim Miller Perfect Drift Highweight for Hawthorne Gold Cup STICKNEY, IL -- Weights have been announced for the first Fall Harvest Festival of Racing, comprised of the Grade 2, $750,000 Hawthorne Gold Cup; the Grade 3 $150,000 Guaranteed Robert F. Carey Memorial Handicap; and the $150,000 added Indian Maid Breeders’ Cup Handicap. Perfect Drift, the Hawthorne Gold Cup winner in 2003, and the runner up in last year’s edition, is the highweight with 122 pounds. Following, in order of weight assigned will be: Choctaw Nation, 118 Freefourinternet was the upset winner in the 2004 Hawthorne Gold Cup, beating Perfect Drift by just under two lengths and paying a whopping $56.00 for the victory. In the Grade 3 Robert F Carey Memorial Handicap, 25 nominations were received. Last year’s winner, Scooter Roach wasn’t among them but second-place finisher Gin And Sin was. In order of weights: Fort Prado, 121 Beret, the heroine of the 2004 Indian Maid Breeders’ Cup, won’t be making a return trip but with 35 nominations, it should be a terrific race.
