JUST SEE JAMES WINS $40,000 ZEN HANDICAP
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (June 5, 2005) -- Linda & Jeff Lafoy's Just See James, making his first start since last September, rallied four-wide in the stretch to win the $40,000 Zen Handicap by a half-length at Arlington Park on Sunday. Randall Meier rode the son of The Name's Jimmy who covered the seven furlongs in 1:21.76, the fastest clocking at the distance here since 2000.
"The other morning when I worked him, he worked excellent," said Meier. "I knew he was a good one when I rode him last fall but then he got hurt. They gave him time. They were stepping pretty good (today). He was a bit 'fresh' at the start but then he settled. At the three-eighths pole I said to myself, 'I got the two on the lead.' Down the lane, he just exploded just like he did the other morning."
The Kris Turner trainee earned $24,000 for the Zen to boost his bankroll to $90,820 while bettering his record to four wins and a second from seven starts.
Big Bold Sweep rallied three wide but was outfinished by the winner and had to settle for second, three lengths clear of Wiggins. Even-money favorite Silver Bid ran fourth, followed by Bold Caller, Persuaggle, Jack of My Heart and Medicine Eyes.
Just See James paid $14, $7.20 and $4.60. Big Bold Sweep returned $5.80 and $4. Wiggins paid $3.80.
