Herculated Leads Competitive Field for Carey Memorial

STICKNEY, IL -- Trainer Michael Stidham’s Herculated leads a very competitive field to the post for the running of the Grade 3, $150,000 Robert F. Carey Memorial at Hawthorne. To be contested at one mile on the turf, a field of nine has been assembled for this race.

Leading the way in the Carey is 7-2 morning line favorite Herculated as the four-year-old gelding makes his 11th career start and looks for his seventh career win. Herculated has been away from the races since August 7 when he posted a half-length victory in the Sea O’Erin Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Arlington at the same mile distance. Ridden by C.H. Marquez Jr., Herculated looks to make it four-for-four at this mile distance.

Kentucky shipper G P Fleet comes in off a solid string of races as well as he has found the board in five of seven on the year and was a winner in the Tri State Handicap on the turf at Ellis Park in his last. Trained by Steve Flint and ridden by Rafael Mojica, G P Fleet is the second choice in the morning line at 4-1.

Another unbeaten at this mile distance on the grass is Missme. Trained by Lynn Whiting, Missme was also a winner of his last, taking the Kentucky Cup Mile at Kentucky Downs on September 24. A winner of three of 11 starts on the year, Missme will be ridden by Dean Butler and is 9-2 in the morning line.

Another runner that has been solid on the year is Major Rhythm as he starts for trainer Ed Beam. The five-year-old gelding has progressed through recent races as this runner comes in off a three-length victory in the DeBartolo Memorial Breeders’ Cup Handicap on September 6 at Remington Park. Major Rhythm will be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Earlie Fires and is 5-1 in the morning line.
