ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (August 1, 2004) -- Nancy Vanier & Cartwright Thoroughbreds LLC's Straight Line led from start to finish en route to a length and a half victory in the $52,600 Honest Pleasure Stakes for 2-year-olds Sunday at Arlington Park. Chris Emigh rode the Harvey Vanier-trained son of Boundary who covered the five and a half furlongs in 1:04.65.

Straight Line set the pace through fractions of 22.67, 45.89 and 58.14 en route to the final clocking. He was a little green in the stretch but the outcome was never in doubt.

"I think he was reacting to the noise of the crowd turning for home," Emigh said when asked about the horse's erratic behavior in the lane. "He's got a lot of natural speed and got the lead very easily. He relaxed for me and when I asked him, he responded. I think he'll like things even more as the races get longer."

Sunday's win was the second in as many starts for Straight Line, who earned $31,360 to boost his bankroll to $42,160. Sent off at odds of 7-1, he returned $16, $4.80 and $3.20.

Toliver was second in the six-horse field and paid $3.40 and $2.40. It was another 2 lengths back to Smoke Smoke Smoke, who returned $2.60. Kahok, Copy My Notes and Brighton Bull completed the order of finish.
