Giving Away Horsepower

As Hawthorne races into the second half of the racing season, the marketing and promotions department is showing that there is so much to come out to the races for as the winter months begin.

For the first month and a half of the season, qualifiers were being drawn for numerous car giveaways and last Sunday we found our first winner for the meeting.

Frank Mancari, owner of Mancari Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep of Oak Lawn, has been a wonderful sponsor at Hawthorne for many years. He donated a 2000 PT Cruiser and was on-site as the automobile was given away. With nine qualifiers waiting, Joseph Lyons drew his key first and walked to the car to try and start it. To his amazement, the engine fired and he was the proud owner of the PT cruiser.

But the other qualifiers didn't go home empty handed. Thanks to our sponsors, National Airlines and the Imperial Palace, the remaining eight qualifiers all received a free trip to Las Vegas with a room in the Imperial Palace.

The car giveaways don't end there though. Starting November 25, a classic car will be given away almost every weekend through the end of the racing season. These cars have been provided by the Chicago Car Exchange and vehicles such as classic Mustangs and Cadillacs are slated to be driven home by some lucky fans.

In addition to the automobile drawings, there are also chances every weekend to take home a big screen television. Sponsored by ESPN Radio and Grant's West TV, appliance, and video, a 36" television will be handed to a lucky fan every Sunday as part of a promotion for the NFL room. Every Sunday, Hawthorne will shown every NFL game on big screen TV's in the NFL room. Football carries over into Monday as a special Monday Night Football promotion. For $6.00, fans receive admission, simulcast program, buffet in the Gold Cup Room and parking.

Also, continuing every Saturday is the Handicapping contest. This weekend is the final qualifying Saturday for the November finals, but starting in December there will be another edition of the contest with the December champions being sent to Las Vegas for the DRF/NTRA handicapping finals and a chance at a $100,000 winner's share.

So as the winter months drag down the spirits of many, come out to Hawthorne and enjoy great Thoroughbred racing and giveaways.
