Lopez injured, She's a Devil Due wins Alcibiades
Uriel Lopez, astride Here Comes Lefty in Sunday's first race at Hawthorne, suffered a broken collar bone when his mount fell approaching the finish line. Lopez was taken to Loyola Medical Center where the fracture was found. No further details are known at this time.
She's A Devil's Due, owned by Mike Goetz & Brian Griggs and trained by Ken McPeek, was victorious in all three of her starts at Arlington International this summer. She extended her win streak to four today. With regular rider Mark Guidry aboard she held off the late charging Nasty Storm in the Grade 2 Walmac International Alcibiades at Keeneland. It was a highly-impressive victory for this filly, who was making her first route attempt and her first try around two turns.
In other news with a local spin, and with possible Breeders' Cup ramifications, King Cugat also won today. The winner of the Grade 2 Arlington Classic and second in the Grade 1 Secretariat at the same track this summer, he scored a game come-from-behind victory in Sunday's Grade 2 Jamaica Handicap at Belmont.
