First "Challenge" Finals Official
The finals of the first Hawthorne Thoroughbred "Beat The Handicappers" Challenge took place on Saturday afternoon. Eleven participants tied with three winners for the day but money won determined the final outcome.
Claudette Marchand of Berwyn won first prize. The total of her three winners was $50. First prize is a trip for two to the 2001 Breeders' Cup, including transportation and lodging. Grabbing second prize, with a three-winner total of $45 was Walter West of Chicago. Walter takes home a $500 Hawthorne Betting Voucher. Third place, also for three winners, with a total of $42.60 goes to Edward Czubik of Cicero. Mr. Czubik will enjoy a dinner for four in Hawthorne's famous Gold Cup Dining Room.
Don't forget, the next leg of the Hawthorne Thoroughbred "Beat The Handicappers" Challenge starts this Saturday, the second qualifier will be the next Saturday, June 2, with the finals taking place on June 9. Weekly prizes include televisions, subscriptions to HorsePlayer magazine, and copies of Scott McMannis's Chicago Trainer Profiles
New Track Record
A new track record for the "About One Mile Turf" distance was set on Sunday. Hi Dee Ho Coyote stopped the timer in 1:35.62
Adios Bret won Sunday's 7th race and paid $102.40, the highest win price of the meet.
