Preakness Pre-betting

Hawthorne will card The Preakness Stakes as the ninth race on Saturday and will offer bettors the opportunity to shop around for the best price. You will be able to bet through the national mutuel pool or you can bet through the on-track pool at Hawthorne.

Remember Monarchos paid $27 in Hawthorne's pool for the Kentucky Derby while paying $23 nationally. That's not a bad chunk of change.

Starting Friday, Hawthorne will also offer advance wagering on the Preakness.

The Hawthorne Gold Cup will be the seventh race on Saturday.

Jockey Injured

Jockey Chris Valovich took off his mounts in the last four races Tuesday with a possible pulled groin muscle. He sustained that injury in the third when he was unseated during the post parade by first-time starter Gray Drummer. Valovich did ride the fifth but felt that it wasn't fair to the bettors to continue riding when he couldn't give 100%. He's expected to be back in the irons when live racing resumes on Friday

Zoe Cadman, TV Star

ABC (Channel 7 in Chicago) was at the track on Tuesday doing a feature on jockey Zoe Cadman. It is scheduled to air Wednesday afternoon. Zoe did her part, winning three races on the afternoon.
