HAWTHORNE NOTES
| Hawthorne Racecourse Daily Notes Contact: Jim Miller (708) 780-3700 Hawthorne Derby Update The field for the Grade 3 $250,000 Hawthorne Derby is taking shape. Probables include: Fan Club's Mister, Kalu, Moomtaz, Proud Man, Rahy's Secret, True Concern, and Volponi. Also listed as possible are Eighth Avenue and Lil Mephistopheles. Under the "never overlook a gift horse" category It's common knowledge that trainer Mike Reavis wins with a high percentage of those he has just claimed so, of course, everybody bet his Rapidrunstheriver. Right? Not. Rapidrunstheriver, the 3-1 third choice in the morning line in Tuesday's fifth race, appeared to be pretty weary in the stretch but he managed to hang on and pay $58.40 to win, making him the highest-priced victor so far this meet. Waiting for the babies Glenbriar Girl, who scratched from Tuesday's third race, is a three-quarter sister to 2000 Illinois Champion Two-Year-Old and 2000 Illinois Horse of the Year, Two Item Limit. Reportedly, Glenbriar Girl outworked Lil' Mary's Kitty who demolished the field in her debut race, winning by 14½ lengths. Two Item Limit, by the way, is scheduled to compete in the Black Eyed Susan at Pimlico a week from Saturday. $100,000 Pick 6 The Pick 6 was hit on Tuesday. Two winning tickets paid $45,532.00 each. Turf Racing The turf rail moves back to rail lane one following Tuesday's races and the distances will change from the "about" designation to true distance. ### |
